See, I Learned it from my Dad, you see

When you turn to me,

And compliment my loving ways,

Just know that those seeds were sown

At the very start of my younger days.

See, I learned it from my Dad, you see,

What it meant to always protect.

To be ready to answer the bell at any time,

And no easy choice select.

To live a life of sacrifice,

To always be on your guard.

To never shirk from life’s demands,

Even when the times got hard.

See, I learned it from my Dad, you see.

He taught me in so many ways.

To deliver to those within my charge,

Only safe and better days.

He stood tall, whatever the time,

A shining column of how to be.

Encouraging us to follow that path,

To stare down life with glee.

See, I learned it from my Dad, you see,

And I hope my sons do too.

For the gifts that mighty man gave me,

I now gladly give to you.

Drowning

Drowning in your eyes, baby,

A bottomless pool of love,

Not wanting to ever surface,

And ascend to what's above.

Drowning in your arms, baby,

Falling free, a warm cocoon,

Fly me ever deeper,

From Earth to Sun to Moon.

Drowning in your mind, baby,

Betwixt love and intellect,

Where others fear to tread my love,

Is the journey I select.

Drowning in your heart, baby,

Joyously lost in loves delight,

And with every beat's crescendo,

My own heart joins the flight.

Drowning in your love, baby,

Pure joy in a lover's kiss,

Drifting deeper, ever deeper,

Never wanting to escape this bliss.

North and South

You are my North and South,
My East and West,
The sun that greets me in the morning,
And the stars that light my way to sleep.
You are there holding my hand when I most need it,
And raising those same hands in exultation when I succeed.
You challenge me to be me,
And celebrate me for all I am.
At the same time, you challenge me to grow
In whatever way goodness and integrity require.
You provide me with counsel,
And also welcome my own.
Together there is no mountain,
No nadir,
No tangle of circumstance,
No forlorn cause,
That will break this bond
Of love,
Of commitment,
Of destiny,
Of connection.
What would others give
To share a life so complete?
What would others do
To come close to love replete?
So come rain,
Come sun,
Come storm,
Come calm,
Come thorns to shroud the way,
Or flowers to carpet the path,
Because together
As one,
Unified,
Facing square,
No challenge shall defeat us!
